Current Perspective on Exchange Transfusion.

چکیده
strict surgical asepsis, the use of transparent catheter (polyvinyl feeding tube with a rounded end and side holes) for umbilical catheterization was strongly suggested, as it enabled easy identification of the air bubbles that can cause of air embolism if pushed into the circulation. The clearance of blocked catheters (clots in the circulation) using pressure was strongly reprehended. In situations where the high venous pressure was recorded or in the presence of heart failure, a deficit exchange was carried until the pressure normalized. The author felt that with the above discipline, the risk of complications due to ET can be significantly reduced.

Evaluation of the Severity and Duration of Thrombocytopenia following Exchange Transfusion in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia
Background: Infant jaundice is one the most common causes of hospitalization in infant in the first month of birth, which is defined an abnormal increase in blood bilirubin levels. Exchange transfusion is the recommended treatment for neonatal jaundice who do not respond to phototherapy and experience dangerous complication of jaundice and signs of kernicterus. However, this treatment may lead ...
متن کاملSuccessful Management of Vinblastin Overdose with Exchange Transfusion: A Case Report
Accidental overdose of chemotherapy drugs including vinblastin (VBL) have been reported in the literature. As VBL overdose is potentially fatal, we decided to introduce a 2-year-old girl affected by langerhans’ cell histiocytosis who was accidentally injected 10-times the prescribed dose of VBL (16 mg), and was saved with whole blood double exchange transfusion at 8 and 20 hrs after the acciden...
متن کاملEffect of Intensive Phototherapy and Exchange Transfusion on Copper, Zinc and Magnesium Serum Levels in Neonates with Indirect Hyperbilirubinemia
BackgroundMany studies reported that copper, zinc and magnesium play important roles in the pathogenesis and development of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. Exchange transfusion and intensive phototherapy are known two modalities of therapy for severe neonatal hyper bilirubinemia, but the effect of them on those trace elements is unknown.Materials and MethodsCopper, Zinc and Magnesium serum levels ...

Background: The incidence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency in Iran is estimated at 10-14.9%. The donor blood in blood banks is not screened routinely for this enzyme deficiency and such blood may be used for neonatal exchange transfusion. Objective: To study the effect of G-6-PD deficient blood in neonatal exchange blood transfusion. Methods: In a prospective study, serum...
